Ankle Discoloration

Do you or someone you know have red/brown discoloration of the lower legs?

It could be a condition called lipodermatosclerosis, or LDS. This is when you get increasing pigmentation and hardening of the skin. The lower leg may look like a bowling pin or upside down champagne flute.

LDS of the lower leg is likely caused by long standing venous insufficiency and varicose veins.

While there is no cure for lipodermatosclerosis, using compression therapy and treating the venous insufficiency may keep the condition from progressing.

If you have any questions or think you may have LDS, please to contact us and schedule an appointment to see one of our providers. We would be happy to take care of you!
